Summer School Curriculum: Grades 3-5
May 23, 2024How Not to Hate Grammar
Grammar feels overwhelming because sometimes it feels like there’s an endless list of things to teach, but the problem is that we don’t even know what all should be on the list. Where is the list? Well, I finally made one!
Wouldn’t it be nice to have all the revising stems in one place? Wouldn’t it be nice to know how frequently grammar concepts are showing up in the editing answer choices?
I got you!
This is what I’ll discuss in depth and detail, and by grade level in my online course “How Not to Hate Grammar!” I have this broken down in more detail and with all of the revising stems–organized by grade level. Then resources to go along with each!
In this online course, participants will walk away with high-impact, classroom-ready strategies to make grammar instruction purposeful, engaging, and embedded in daily routines. Learn how to implement daily grammar warm-ups that build momentum, incorporate mentor sentences that elevate student writing, and use revising and editing data to guide instruction.
Participants will leave with a renewed sense of what “enough” grammar looks like:
- A full year of daily warm-up routines for EVERY GRADE LEVEL!
- Mentor sentence integration strategies with clear connections to STAAR
- Data-proven revising and editing strategy
- Instantly effective ways to eliminate non-sentences—fragments, run-ons, comma splices, and awkward constructions.
- Purposeful and engaging revising and editing activities that transfer and connect to ECR writing
- “Daily Dose of Grammar” – revising and editing warm-ups for the most assessed grammar skills
- “Everything’s a Remix” – mentor sentence graphic organizers for any text
- “Friday Fix” – grammar stations
- GG – grammar games
- Grammar one-off lessons
- . . . and so much more!
